Department Focus
At Zhangde Primary School, Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) is central to our mission of nurturing Thinking Individuals and Gracious Citizens.
Guided by our school vision, “A Learning School with a GIVER3S Heart”, we seek to develop students who know themselves, care for others, make responsible choices and contribute meaningfully to their school, community and nation.
CCE is not confined to a single subject or lesson. It is lived through students’ everyday experiences — in the classroom, during recess, through CCAs, leadership opportunities, Values-in-Action, National Education and their interactions with others.

Grounded in our GIVER3S values, students learn about character and citizenship, experience opportunities to put their learning into practice, and live out these values through the ABC Approach.

From Values to Action: The ABC Approach
Knowing our values is only the beginning. Students need to be able to apply them when making everyday decisions.
Through ABC, students learn to become increasingly aware of themselves and others, take responsibility for their behaviour and make choices that reflect our GIVER3S values.

Values-in-Action: From Home to the Wider Community
VIA provides authentic opportunities for students to translate values into meaningful action. Beginning with everyday responsibility and contribution, students progressively participate in planning, decision-making and student-led contributions.
Through these experiences, students develop empathy, ownership and social responsibility as they learn to recognise needs and contribute meaningfully to others.
Student Leadership: Every Zhangderen a Servant Leader
At Zhangde, we believe that every Zhangderen can be a servant leader. Students are given progressive opportunities to contribute at the class, level and school levels.
They grow from carrying out class-based responsibilities to leading others, supporting school and level-wide activities and, for selected student leaders, participating in planning and decision-making.
Through these experiences, students develop responsibility, teamwork, confidence and an understanding that leadership is about serving and positively influencing others.
Education & Career Guidance: Discovering Purpose and Possibilities
Education and Career Guidance (ECG) supports students in discovering their interests, strengths and values, exploring future possibilities and developing the attitudes and skills needed to navigate their educational journey.
ECG Day @ Zhangde
Our annual ECG Day provides graduating students with opportunities to research occupations across different industries and share their learning with their Primary 5 juniors. Through our partnership with the Parents Support Group, students also benefit from authentic insights into the world of work.

A Caring and Supportive Community
Form Teachers play an important role in knowing and supporting every child. Together with Year Heads, school counsellors and other student-support structures, we seek to provide students with the relationships, guidance and support they need to thrive.
Together, school, family and community create an environment in which students can practise values, exercise agency and grow into gracious citizens.
